RADM Michael N. Parks, USCG (Ret.) joins Chamber of Marine Commerce

The Chamber of Marine Commerce is pleased to announce that RADM Michael N. Parks, USCG (Ret.), has joined the Chamber as Special Advisor.

In his new role, RADM Parks will be working with the Chamber to promote the distinct economic, environmental and safety advantages of the bi-national Great Lakes – St. Lawrence shipping industry, in addition to increasing awareness and advising on the industry’s maritime-related policy and issues.

Seaway crucial for vital cargo ahead of winter

NEWS RELEASE

Shipments through the St. Lawrence Seaway remained strong in October as North American manufacturers and cities stockpiled vital materials in advance of the coming winter and farmers relied on the waterway to export the new harvest.

According to the St. Lawrence Seaway, total cargo tonnage from March 25 to October 31 reached 29.6 million metric tons, up 4.5 per cent over the same period last year. Robust grain and steel shipments have more than offset a drop in iron ore shipments through the Seaway.

St. Lawrence Seaway cargo shipments surpass 2013 levels by 3%

 

Total cargo shipments on the St. Lawrence Seaway have now surpassed 2013 levels despite one of the most difficult starts to the shipping season in years due to ice coverage.

According to Seaway figures, total cargo tonnage from March 25 to August 31 reached 20 million metric tons, up 3 percent over the same period last year.

NY manufacturing boosts aluminum shipments to Port of Oswego

 

Shipments of aluminum products through the St. Lawrence Seaway to the Port of Oswego are expected to increase by 30 percent this year due to strong demand from aluminum sheet manufacturers catering to the automotive industry. 

The Port of Oswego is experiencing record levels of aluminum shipments and is forecasting that more than 120,000 metric tons will be delivered to the port in 2014. The aluminum is shipped by barge from the Aluminerie Alouette facility in Sept-Iles, Quebec — the largest aluminum smelter in the Americas.

U.S. ports report brisk November cargo tonnage through Seaway System

Washington, D.C.  – While the 2013 shipping season saw overall fluctuating cargo figures, U.S. ports on the Great Lakes have continued to outperform their initial projections.The St. Lawrence Seaway reported that year-to-date total cargo shipments for the period March 22 to November 30 were 33 million metric tons, down 6 percent over the same period in 2012.
