Port of Green Bay sees increase in petroleum exports

Washington, D.C. (August 18, 2011) – The St. Lawrence Seaway statistics for the month of July indicate steady traffic with cautious optimism as the economy continues to rebound.

Year-to-date total cargo shipments through July were 17 million metric tons, up 7.3 percent over the same period in 2010 due primarily to demand for bulk materials used in construction, salt, petroleum products, and Canadian grain.

Report Confirms State’s Higher Standards Cannot Be Achieved

Washington, D.C. (December 22, 2010) – As a consequence of a year-long feasibility study, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) proposed late yesterday that its Vessel General Permit be modified to harmonize it with international ballast water discharge rules. The requirements become effective in 2012 for new ocean-going vessels and in 2014 for existing oceangoing vessels.

Washington, D.C. (August 17, 2010) — Cargo shipments through the St. Lawrence Seaway continue to be buoyed by demand for iron ore and steel slabs with an overall increase of 16.6 percent year-todate compared to the same period last year.

The St. Lawrence Seaway reported that marine vessels carried 14.8 million tonnes of cargo from March 25 to July 31 — an increase of over 2 million tonnes compared to the 12.7 million tonnes handled during the same period last year.
