Ottawa, Ontario — St. Catharines city council has unanimously passed a resolution opposing New York’s “unachievable” incoming ballast water regulations and have urged the American and Canadian governments to take all possible measures to stop them from being implemented as proposed.

December 15, 2011 Seaway Salt Shipments Up 20% in November as Cities prepare for Icy Winter

Ottawa, Ontario   – Year-to-date cargo shipments through theSt. Lawrence Seaway remain steady, bolstered in November by strong gains in iron ore exports and salt shipments as Great Lakes cities prepare for the winter onslaught.

The Seaway’s year-to-date total cargo shipments from March 22 to November 30 were 33.4 million tonnes, up one per cent from the same period last year.  Total cargo shipments for the month of November were down slightly by two per cent to 4.5 million tonnes, pulled down by decreased U.S. grain shipments.

December 2, 2011 CSA vice-president awarded Order of Military Merit

Ottawa, Canada — Robert Lewis-Manning, vice-president of the Canadian Shipowners Association, was today invested as an Officer of the Order of Military Merit in a ceremony at Rideau Hall.

The Order of Military Merit was created in 1972, to recognize meritorious service and devotion to duty by members of the Canadian Forces. The Order has three levels of membership: Commander (C.M.M.), Officer (O.M.M.) and Member (M.M.M.).

November 22, 2011 Port of Windsor Boosts Jobs, Adds $130M to Economy: Study

Windsor, Ontario (November 21, 2011)— Cargo shipments to and from the Port of Windsor generate $130.5 million of economic activity and 937 jobs in Ontario, according to a new study released today.

The new analysis is part of a wider study carried out by economic consultants Martin Associates that in October reported that the entire bi-national Great Lakes- St. Lawrence Seaway System and its more than 100 ports generate $34.6 billion of economic activity and 227,000 jobs in Canada and the U.S..

Ottawa, Ontario (October 18, 2011)— Cargo shipments to ports on the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway navigation system generate $34.6 billion of economic activity and 227,000 jobs in Canada and the U.S., according to a new study released today. That breaks down to 98,000 jobs and $15.9 billion in economic activity in Ontario and Quebec.
