The Chamber of Marine Commerce (CMC) welcomes the Government of Canada’s launch of a $100-million rebate program supporting the interprovincial transportation of eligible Canadian steel by rail and marine.
The Commodities Sectoral Support Program will rebate 50 per cent of eligible rail and marine transportation costs for Canadian steel moving between provinces and territories for up to one year, or until available funding is exhausted. The goal is to help Canadian steelmakers reach domestic markets more competitively while strengthening supply chains and supporting the movement of critical materials for infrastructure and nation-building projects.
“This groundbreaking initiative encourages trade within Canada’s borders, to the benefit of communities nationwide, and the countless Canadians whose jobs, direct and indirect, are tied to the domestic steel industry,” said Joshua H. Juel, President and CEO of the Chamber of Marine Commerce. “Our marine ports, terminals, and ship operators are proud to do our part to make Canada stronger.”
