Chamber of Marine Commerce Welcomes Joshua H. Juel as New President and CEO

The Chamber of Marine Commerce (CMC) board of directors has selected Joshua H. Juel to serve as the CMC’s next President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Juel brings to the role more than twenty years of experience in regulatory affairs and operations involving the marine industry in both Canada and the U.S.

Mr. Juel most recently served as the Assistant Vice President of Regulatory Affairs and Marine Operations for Algoma Central Corporation, having responsibility for all regulatory matters pertaining to vessel operations, and prior to that he successfully directed all aspects of the Fleet Personnel function for Algoma’s domestic fleet. In addition, he served as the company’s Company Security Officer. Prior to joining Algoma Central Corporation, Mr. Juel was a manager for the marine division of the Canadian National Railway Company, with a particular focus on the Great Lakes Fleet and Compagnie de gestion de Matane (COGEMA). Before that, he worked in the cruise line industry in positions of increasing responsibility, the most recent of which was with Norwegian Cruise Line as a Human Resources Director.

Mr. Juel holds degrees from the Great Lakes Maritime Academy and Cornell University. He also earned his license as a U.S. Merchant Marine deck officer for vessels of unlimited tonnage, in addition to marine pilotage from Duluth, Minnesota to Cape Vincent, New York. Mr. Juel is also a certified Class I Railroad Conductor.

Mr. Juel will officially start as President and CEO of the CMC effective November 1, 2025. He was selected through a comprehensive international search, and his appointment reflects the Chamber of Marine Commerce’s commitment to leading advocacy for safe, sustainable, harmonized and competitive policy and regulation that recognizes the marine transportation system’s significant advantages in the Great Lakes, St. Lawrence, Coastal and Arctic regions.
