Total cargo shipments on the St. Lawrence Seaway have now surpassed 2013 levels despite one of the most difficult starts to the shipping season in years due to ice coverage.

NY manufacturing boosts aluminum shipments to Port of Oswego

 

Shipments of aluminum products through the St. Lawrence Seaway to the Port of Oswego are expected to increase by 30 percent this year due to strong demand from aluminum sheet manufacturers catering to the automotive industry. 

The Port of Oswego is experiencing record levels of aluminum shipments and is forecasting that more than 120,000 metric tons will be delivered to the port in 2014. The aluminum is shipped by barge from the Aluminerie Alouette facility in Sept-Iles, Quebec — the largest aluminum smelter in the Americas.

Seaway grain shipments surge by 70%

NEWS RELEASE

OTTAWA – The St. Lawrence Seaway has been crucial for companies exporting Canada’s bumper grain crop — with shipments already 70 per cent higher than last season.  And Great Lakes ports and ship owners are now preparing for the next harvest.

According to the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation, while combined Canada-U.S. grain shipments are up 55 per cent, Canadian grain shipments alone from March 25 to July 31 totaled 3.6 million metric tons, a 70 per cent increase over the same period last year.

Grain shipments via St. Lawrence Seaway up 38% this season

 

OTTAWA – Grain shipments via the St. Lawrence Seaway have skyrocketed this season as both Prairie and Ontario farmers take advantage of the waterway to meet export demand in Europe, the Middle East and other world markets.

According to the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation, while combined shipments (U.S. and Canadian) are up 38 per cent, Canadian grain shipments from March 25 to June 30 totaled 2.7 million metric tons, a 50 per cent increase over the same period last year.

U.S. ports report brisk November cargo tonnage through Seaway System

Washington, D.C.  – While the 2013 shipping season saw overall fluctuating cargo figures, U.S. ports on the Great Lakes have continued to outperform their initial projections.The St. Lawrence Seaway reported that year-to-date total cargo shipments for the period March 22 to November 30 were 33 million metric tons, down 6 percent over the same period in 2012.
